NOTICE OF RACE


DATES
The Hout Bay Yacht Club Championships will be held over the weekend of 7,8 November 2009
Prize giving will be held soon after racing on Sunday 8th November at a time to be advised

ORGANISING AUTHORITY AND RULES
Organising Authority is Hout Bay Yacht Club (Sailing Committee), under auspices of South African Sailing (SAS)
Regatta will be sailed in terms of ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012

RACE OFFICE
Race Office will be the HBYC Club Office 021 790 3110
Regatta Notice-board will be the regular notice-board in the club house (upstairs)

ELIGIBILITY
Open to any monohull or multihull yachts having a current PHRF Rating.
Entries from other SA Yacht Clubs are welcome!
All yachts will sail under a single PHRF Class

Entry fee is R100 per boat, payable into HBYC Bank account as follows:

Skippers and Crew must be paid up members of a South African Yacht Club in good standing with South African Sailing (SAS)
Race Committee will be the final authority on PHRF ratings.

SAFETY
All yachts will comply with South African Safety requirements as defined by SAS for Category C.
Race Committee reserves the right to inspect and/or disqualify any entry not complying with the Safety Requirements.
Chart San 1015 shall be carried for the duration of the Regatta.
All vessels must carry VHF radios capable of receiving and transmitting on VHF Channels 16 and 71.
Skippers shall hold the minimum of SAS Day Skippers tickets during the regatta.

INSPECTIONS
At the request of the Race Committee, vessel inspections may be carried out at any time during the Regatta – between 0900 on Sat 7 November 2009, and 17:00 Sunday 8 November 2009.

RACES
Racing will commence not earlier than 10:30 on 7 and 8 November 2009.
Round the Cans Races (RTC) will be sailed in Hout Bay between Hout Bay Beach and Kommetjie Lighthouse depending on conditions.
Amendments to the racing schedule will be published on the Regatta Notice-board.
It is intended that 6 races will be sailed over the two days.
Three races completed shall constitute a regatta.


SCORING
Regatta will be scored as provided under Appendix A of ISAF RRS using the Low Point System.
A single discard race may be allowed at the discretion of the race committee if more than three races have been completed.
Spinnaker allowances will not be permitted in this event.

PENALTIES
All reference in RRS 44.1 and 44.2 to two-Turns penalties are replaced with One-Turn penalties including a Tack and a Gybe.

CREWS
Skipper shall ensure that sufficient crew are available to manage the vessel safely at all times.
Individual class rules regarding crew number or weight restrictions shall be adhered to.

PRIZES
Prizes shall be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in the Regatta, and otherwise as the race committee sees fit

ADVERTISING
No restrictions unless we get a sponsor nearer the time!

MOORINGS
Visiting yacht entries will be allowed free mooring from 1 Nov 2009 until 15 Nov 2009.

LIABILITY
Competitors sail entirely at heir own risk. The onus on whether to start or continue in a race lies entirely with the skipper of that yacht. None of the organizations or persons concerned with the running of the regatta accepts any liability for damage or injury, material or personal, suffered during the races or at any other time – however arising.

PROTESTS
Protests will be entertained at the discretion of the race committee only.
