- Eligibility
- Any Mono or Multihull with
- A valid certificate of fitness – per SAMSA requirements for vessels longer than 9m.
- A valid Club Handicap Rating on the RCYC database of club handicaps.
- A minimum of 3 boats on the start line is required to constitute a race. If less than 3 entrants, that race will be cancelled.
- Venue and Courses
- Hout Bay, Chapmans Bay, not usually further than Vulcan Rock.
- Courses will include:
- Windward-Leeward and Triangular courses in Hout Bay.
- Occasional longer courses to Vulcan Rock and towards Kommetjie.
- Safety
- The decision to participate in any club race is the sole decision of the skipper.
- Skippers to hold appropriate qualifications for their vessel, usually min SAS Day skippers ticket.
- The race committee may use their discretion to cancel racing, or to abandon a race, should weather conditions not be suitable for the majority of the fleet.
- All yachts to monitor VHF-71 during racing.
- Bridge
- Racing instructions will be issued over VHF-71.
- Flags will not usually be used.
- The onus is on skippers to request clarity on race instructions from the bridge (should there be any doubt), and are requested to acknowledge racing instructions by radio.
- Bridge is entitled to communicate with yachts individually to clarify racing instructions.
- Bridge may often be run from a participating yacht, the clubhouse, or a committee-boat.
- Prizes and Scoring
- Prizes for individual races 1st, 2nd, 3rd place.
- Series results will be scored on the low-points system.
- Series results will allow discards equal to 1/3 of the total number of races sailed.
- Series results will not contribute to the Club Champs event, or vice versa.
- Protests and Redress
- Any skipper wanting to lodge a protest or request for redress shall apply to the race officer with 60 minutes of first vessel finishing, either by radio, or in person.
- The protest committee will endeavour to hold the protest immediately if circumstances allow. However, if for reasons of unavailability of a suitable committee, or time constraints, or similar, the race committee may elect to hold the hearing after the following club race. In this case results will be marked provisional.
- Penalties taken on the water will be in the form of a single 360 – including a tack and a gybe, and may be taken at anytime before crossing the finish line. Yachts performing penalty turns should advise the bridge by radio shortly before.
- Protest committee will usually be appointed by the RC Sailing or Commodore, and may include The Club Commodore, Club President, RC Keelboats (where available and not parties to the protest), and may include sailing members of other boats not directly involved in the incident.
- Protests will be held in the function room of the yacht club, unless not available.
- Rules
- Notwithstanding the changes to the rules as noted above, the ISAF rules 2009-12 will apply.
